About the Forum

Open to all businesses in the Sneinton area, big or small, the Sneinton Business Forum aims to build a thriving, open and sustainable business community, both on a local and national scale.

The Sneinton business community

Sneinton is a unique area of Nottingham with a rich history. Famous Sneintonions include mathematician George Green who lived in our landmark windmill and William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army. Sneinton, now very much part of Nottingham City still retains its distinctive appeal.

Sneinton is home to hundreds of small and medium businesses in an area spanning from the Lady Bay industrial estate to St Ann’s. The business mix is a combination of trades people, manufacturers, retailers and professional services, with the recent addition of a cluster of larger nationals and international businesses, including Virgin Media and Clinphone.

The Forum’s vision for Sneinton

The Sneinton Business Forum was set up in 2006 by local businesses and traders to focus on business issues and support the local economy.

One of our aims is to grow the presence of businesses in Sneinton and create an area which is a one stop shop where local people can access all their consumer requirements and importantly choose to shop in the area. We already have a wide range of businesses to serve the demands of local people but, without doubt, there is scope for further development.

Following one of Nottingham City Council’s key strategic priority sectors for economic development and enterprise, the Sneinton Business Forum takes direct action to help making the shift from traditional industries towards a knowledge based economy, tackle worklessness and improve low skills and low qualification levels.

It is clear that many of the major industries that declined in Nottingham were based in deprived communities (Radford, Lenton, Sneinton) and many of these wards show well above the England average unemployment figures. It is very much our aspiration to support the City Council’s vision to fill the ‘enterprise gap’ and we hope that Sneinton Busienss Forum can help act as the mechanism to inspire new start up businesses to flourish and existing enterprises to grow.

Our objectives

The Forum seeks to:

  • Make Sneinton the natural choice for business investment in Nottingham.
  • Promote education and training opportunities.
  • Improve transport links to the area
  • Act as the voice and lobbying body on behalf of member businesses
  • Keep wealth local and support growth in the local economy
  • Provide a networking opportunity and events for local business to stimulate cross trading
  • Signpost businesses to grant and loan support and changes in legislation
  • Provide information based events so that best practice can be shared and new knowledge harnessed

Joining us!

The Forum is keen to invite and involve as many businesses within the Sneinton area to join and work together to improve the local business environment. There are currently 100 members of the Sneinton Business Forum and it is our aspiration to grow this to more than 200 by mid 2008.

Membership is currently free and every member is welcome to our monthly meeting that takes place every last Thursday of the month at 6pm at Dawson’s Bakery on Little Tennis Street South, Sneinton.
